Glutinous rice is grown much in Kim Thanh district: 1,100 ha, Binh Giang district: 1,000 ha, Kinh Mon district: 610 ha. More than 1,000 ha of speciality glutinous rice are mainly grown in Kinh Mon district (500 ha), Kim Thanh (300 ha). In many communes of Kim Thanh district, glutinous rice make a large proportion of more than 50% of rice area such as: Phuc Thanh, Kim Xuyen, Tuan Hung. Co Dung commune only, 70% of rice area is for glutinous rice, mainly speciality glutinous rice.

Speciality glutinous rice is more sweet-smelling and delicious than ordinary rice and glutinous rice. It makes a good price and brings high economic effect. Speciality glutinous rice is usually grown on the side of rivers. Currently, the demand for high - quality glutinous rice is higher and higher.

After inspection, the fact is that, in the same rice-field and the same production cost, glutinous rice productivity is two third of that of ordinary rice. But it also makes a price twice as much as ordinary rice and interest is 30% higher. Interest of speciality glutinous rice is 15 % higher than that of normal glutinous rice. However, farmers still grow glutinous rice unpromptedly, base on traditional experience and have seeds from the previous crops. All of these make the quality and productivity of glutinous rice reduce.

In order to widening the area of glutinous rice in Hai Duong province, it is necessary to choose, multiply, produce good-quality glutinous rice seeds, then popularize cultivation technology to cultivators and mark the sites which are suitable for glutinous. The model of ''people's rice seeds area'' can be applied. It is possible for Hai Duong province to double the area of speciality glutinous rice in several years to come.

In 2005 crop, science officers experimented with methods to choose and value the quality of speciality glutinous rice in our province by  taking samples and interviewing farmers who grow glutinous rice in different localities. The interviews were about the origin of glutinous, years of using seeds, methods to keep seeds, cultivation... Then, they organized meetings to classify and evaluate the collected seeds. They also tasted to evaluate rice's quality. After taking these methods, several kinds of glutinous rice were asserted to have special high quality.

The way of widening speciality glutinous rice is one of the important methods to raise the production value of agricultural work and create incomes for farmers.
